Tips for Your Holiday Dinner Party

TIP NO. 1

Think about how you want your guests to feel. This will be your guiding light and grounding element as you begin to make decisions and to-do lists! Think dim lighting and warm color palettes for a welcoming ambience versus luxurious textures and flashy decor for an exciting entrance into the New Year! The way people feel when they leave is more important than any detail (hold the gasp)!

TIP NO. 2

Don’t forget to make a fun playlist and turn it on while you get ready. This sets the tone for the night and elevates every design choice you make. An early start also ensures you won’t be figuring out the sound system as guests arrive.

TIP NO. 3

Ask others to help fill in the gaps. It will keep it personal while also giving you the chance to make a new friend across the street, learn about their style or background, and provide a discussion piece at the table!

TIP NO. 4

Just as we layer our clothes, layer your table! I recommend 3-5 textures throughout the tablescape to give it depth and interest: gold candle holders, vintage glassware, velvet ribbons, ceramic dishware and natural florals are a few examples.

TIP NO. 5

I often repeat the phrase “Less is more” to myself when designing. The quality of the items you choose will make a larger impact than the quantity. Let the seasonal food and florals be the centerpiece with selections that compliment, not distract.

TIP NO. 6

Give yourself plenty of time to set up. The energy at the start of the day will seep into the rest. Invite people over, designate small tasks and cue your favorite holiday playlist.
